He couldn't wait.
"I called Coach (Karl) Dorrell today to give him my commitment and he was pretty stoked. Then I called Coach (Eric) Bieniemy, cause he was the one recruiting me. Finally, I called Coach (Tom) Cable and he was really excited that I committed. I felt pretty good about it because only the top guys are the ones who commit early, and they think I'm a top guy," said Sheller.
Walnut hasn't sent many players on to play Division I college football, a thought not lost on Sheller.
"My coach was real excited because we haven't had a lot of guys from here play college football. My family was real excited for me, and proud of me."
Sheller said committing to UCLA this early was a relief. "Now I can just focus on the schoolwork and work on other things."
He will attend the Nike Camp in Los Angeles on Sunday, and while he won't need to impress any other coaching staffs, don't plan on seeing him let down.
"I'm not going to sandbag, I'm still going to work hard for my own case. I want to show that I'm pretty good and what I'm capable of."
With 10 months to go until Signing Day, Sheller has no inkling of changing his pledge.
"I'm pretty much solid now with my commitment to UCLA."
