2006: Andre Harris

Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft running back Andre Harris is ready for the camp circuit this Spring.

Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft is looking for someone in the backfield to pick up the slack with quarterback Josh Portis off to Florida. Running back Andre Harris (6-0, 215), a transfer from Palisades, may be that guy.

A season ago, Harris was at Palisades High, and ran for nearly 900 yards on 106 carries and scored 3 touchdowns.

Harris then left Palisades for Taft, where he will team with receiver Jamere Holland for what could be a potent offense, provided Portis' replacement is up to the challenge.

Since the move, Harris has been getting recruited by four schools primarily.

"My top four schools are Notre Dame, California, USC and UCLA," said Harris. "I like Notre Dame and Cal a lot right now, but if I stayed local, it would be between UCLA and USC."

Harris was hoping to soon speak with new Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, formerly of the New England Patriots.

"It's cool talking with the coach of the Super Bowl champs," said Harris.

In early March, Harris was at UCLA's Junior Day and attended USC's Junior Day last weekend.

"They were really different from each other. UCLA's was more laid back, and USC's they were really loud and active," said Harris.

Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy is recruiting Harris. "He gets really excited and loves coaching."

Harris will be at the Nike Camp on April 17th. Then in May comes the Scout Camp (May 14) and the MSL Combine (May 28).

A year ago Harris attended the UCLA 4-Day Camp, and would like to return for it this summer. He also attended the Beyond2000 Camp at Cal Lutheran, where he will plans to return for the fourth straight summer. In January, Harris participated at the Scout Combine in San Antonio.

Academically, Harris has a 2.8 GPA and is taking SAT preparation classes.
