"Everyone is really excited, especially me," said Savage. "I'm pretty happy to get it over with."
An elite shotputter, Savage said the Bruins' offer to let him play football and do track was a major reason for him to pull the trigger on the Bruins.
Last week at UCLA's Lineman Camp, Savage participated in both the offensive and defensive line drills during the day. He said, "It was great to do both there. I really want to play defense, but I'll play either side in college."
Where he plays will be determined when he arrives as a freshman in the Fall of 2006.
He currently holds a 3.1 GPA and just took the new SAT in March, but doesn't have his scores back yet.
"It's a great opportunity for me to play there and be close to my family. That was important for me."
Savage didn't get to the Nike Camp this past weekend but is hoping to attend the Scout Combine in May, depending on his track schedule.
