NorCal Linebacker Likes Bruins

Northern California produced solid linebacker prospects in the last few years, and this year is no different.

One of the top linebackers in the region is Elk Grove (Calif.) High's Ryan Coulson (6-3, 220), who is coming off a productive junior campaign.

Coulson has been hearing from most of the Pac-10 and some of the Big 12 of late, and four schools in particular are standing out for him.

"Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona and UCLA are the schools I'm hearing from mainly," said Coulson. "There are some others but those are my top four."

Coulson named UCLA as his leader.

"They are in-state and close to home. I'm hearing from them on both offense and defense, but I'm really a defensive player," said Coulson, who can play either outside or inside.

Coulson is hoping to attend the Fresno State and UCLA camps this summer, and will be at the Nike Camp at Stanford in May.

He said, though, a decision isn't forthcoming. "I'm hoping to take some trips, and take my time on my decision. I won't rush it," Coulson said.

During his junior year, Coulson totaled 145 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 sack and a fumble recovery. He also had 16 catches for 220 yards as a tight end.

Academically, Coulson has a 3.3 GPA and took the SAT in March.
