We've heard from some very reliable sources that UCLA received their ninth commitment for the Class of 2006 on Friday.

Reportedly, Imperial (Calif.) High safety Christian Ramirez (6-2, 195) gave the Bruin staff his verbal pledge, according to sources close to the program.

Imperial head coach Steve Cato said that while he wasn't sure if Ramirez actually did give his commitment to the staff today, he knows that Ramirez was in contact with UCLA today and thought he intended to commit.

"I don't know if he gave them the commitment but I do know that he was trying to get in touch with Coach (Dino) Babers and talked to (Bob) Lopez (Director of Football Operations)," said Cato.

Aside from UCLA, Ramirez' other offer was from San Diego State, while he also was hearing a great deal from Arizona State, Washington and Oregon.

During his junior year, Ramirez had 45 tackles, with 4 sacks and 5 recovered fumbles and blocked 2 field goals and 1 punt.

He also rushed for 1,558 yards on 145 carries and scoring 23 touchdowns. In addition he had 9 receptions for 203 yards and 4 touchdowns out of the backfield for Imperial, the same school that produced former UCLA all-American and 2001 Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year Robert Thomas.

In fact, Thomas was on the Imperial campus on Friday.

"We've got some good ties to the UCLA program with Robert playing here (Imperial) and there (UCLA). I don't know if that had something to do with it today," said Cato.
