UCLA Tries With Florida Receiver

The list of schools that have offered Anthony Jones of Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards a scholarship continues to increase. How tough will it be to beat the schools from the South?

Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards receiver Anthony Jones (6-0, 166) has seen the list of schools that have offered him a scholarship increase to six.

His first four offers came from Illinois, Florida, Alabama and Auburn and since then, Ole Miss and Tennessee have extended offers.

"I've got those six, and then LSU, UCLA, Florida State and Oklahoma. I'm hearing a lot from them, and they could be offering me soon," said Jones, the cousin of Florida State-bound Fred Rouse.

Jones said his two favorites right now were Florida and Alabama.

"I'm really liking the Gators right now," said Jones. "I like Alabama, too. I know my family wants me to stay here in the South, and most of the schools are down here. I always wanted to play at Florida State, but Florida is a good program and Coach (Urban) Meyer has a good offense."

Jones, however, hasn't completely dismissed schools from outside of the South. He said, "Oh, I'm not eliminating any one yet. I'm going to narrow it down later. But UCLA and Oklahoma are two schools that have a great program and a great tradition so I am going to look at them, too. UCLA has had some really good receivers in the past."

Coach Eric Bieniemy is recruiting Jones for the Bruins.

Jones has been at two camps so far, the Nike Camp in Tallahassee last weekend, and the Scout Combine in Jacksonville. "I did real good. I did good in the testing but thought I did my best in the 1-on-1s. I'm stronger than people think I am and I'm quicker, too."

Jones clocked a 4.5 forty at both camps, and a 4.19 shuttle at the Scout Combine. He also jumped 35.5 at the Nike Camp.

During his junior campaign, Jones had 68 catches for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns, and was an all-State selection.

Academically, Jones carries a 2.8 GPA and will take the SAT in June.
