San Diego Defensive Tackle Has Offers

UCLA is showing interest in the 6-3, 260-pound defensive tackle Josh Holmes from Point Loma. Holmes tells us about his recruiting, his six offers and his current top five schools...

With UCLA receiving commitments from Andy Keane and Darius Savage, they have the flexibility to play either of them at offensive or defensive line.

UCLA has also expressed strong interest in another San Diego product in Point Loma defensive tackle Josh Holmes (6-3, 260).

Holmes hasn't received a scholarship offer from the Bruin staff yet, but has been in consistent contact with receivers coach Dino Babers, a San Diego native himself.

"Coach Babers is a great guy," said Holmes. "I've met with him and really liked him. He said they are excited about me and just want to see a little more before they give me an offer. I talked to him last week when he came by campus."

Holmes has received offers from Colorado, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Washington State, Utah and San Diego State. He's also hearing from UCLA, Colorado State, Oregon, LSU, Miami and Fresno State

"My top five schools are LSU, Miami, Texas Tech, Colorado and Nebraska," said Holmes. "UCLA and Utah are also up there."

Holmes was at the Scout Combine this weekend in Los Angeles, and was at the Nike Camp in Los Angeles.

At the Scout Combine, Holmes looked good in the one-on-ones and did a good job getting around the blocker. "At the Nike Camp, of the seven reps I got against the offensive line, I got to the bag 6 times. I think I did a good job there in the 1-on-1s. My testing was okay."

During his junior year, Holmes had 109 tackles, 18 for loss and 14 sacks, while also getting 8 pass breakups, 3 forced fumbles and a safety.

Holmes will be making some unofficial visits this summer, and won't be making a decision until after the season, at the earliest.

He has a 3.0 GPA and takes the SAT on June 4th.
