NorCal D-End Has Pac-10 Offers

A.J. Simmons, the 6-3, 235-pound defensive end from Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O'Dowd, has proven himself in combines in the last two weeks. He has some Pac-10 offers and is waiting on more...

Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O'Dowd defensive end A.J. Simmons (6-3, 235) was one of the top three defensive linemen at the Nike Camp at Stanford and showed the strength and quickness that is making him attractive to college coaches.

Simmons looked very good in the one-on-ones, typically getting the better of the offensive lineman he went up against.

He's also starting to garner a good list of offers.

"I've gotten offers from LSU, Oregon, California, Fresno State, Arizona and Idaho," said Simmons.

Simmons is being recruited primarily as a defensive end, but some schools are looking at him as a tight end. "I don't have any preference, wherever I can play I'll play," said Simmons.

Aside from the schools he's been offered by, Simmons is hearing from the whole Pac-10 and some SEC schools, Notre Dame, Michigan and Utah.

"UCLA and USC have been sending me a lot of stuff. I prefer to stay on the West Coast, and both of those schools have great programs. Cal is my leader right now."

Simmons led Bishop O'Dowd in receiving yards and receptions on offense, then recorded 7 sacks, 42 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

He plans to take all of his trips and won't make a decision until January, at the earliest.
