UCLA Going Back to Crenshaw for Receiver

UCLA got three commitments from Crenshaw players in 2005, and for 2006 have been recruiting Crenshaw cornerback Darian Hagan. The Bruins are now also pursuing 6-0, 180-pound Crenshaw receiver Tyquan Knox...

Last season, Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw churned out a trio of Pac-10 bound prospects when Aleksey Lanis, Reggie Carter and Chinonso Anyanwu all signed with UCLA. This year, cornerback Darian Hagan Jr. is the Cougars nationally recognized prospect.

Flying below the radar has been receiver Tyquan Knox (6-0, 180), the Cougars' top pass-catching threat in 2004.

Knox stood out amongst the receivers at the Stanford Nike Camp, and reports had him evaluated as the best receiver of the day. He said he has since received his first scholarship offer.

"Arizona offered me," said Knox. "I'm also hearing from Washington, Nevada, Boise State, UNLV and UCLA."

Knox said his top five consists of UCLA and Arizona at the top and Washington, UNLV and Boise State rounding it out. "It would be cool to play with my boys at UCLA," said Knox. "It's the school I always grew up watching. They are my favorite school, and I like the coaches there."

Knox said his plans for the summer are to camp at UCLA and hopefully catch the staff's eye. Running back coach Eric Bieniemy is recruiting Knox. Know said, "I'm going to go to the camp there at the end of June and then I'm going to Cal to camp too. I'm hoping to get some more offers."

At the Stanford Nike Camp, Knox didn't run a fast 40, but had probably the best day among receivers in running routes and catching the ball. During his junior year, he led Crenshaw in receiving with 64 catches 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns in their City Section runner-up season.

With only one offer, Knox said he won't make a decision until he gets more offers to choose from and compare with each other.

Academically, Knox has a 2.6 GPA and is taking the SAT on June 4th.
