Shaw said he didn't have a top five, but did have a leader. He said, "LSU is the top school. I don't really have a top five, they are all pretty even, but I was an LSU fan growing up and it's close to home."
Shaw did say there is some pressure from family and friends to go with the in-state powerhouse, but said that won't be the deciding factor for him. "I have to do what's best for me. But it's nice that LSU is so close to home," Shaw said.
Shaw is being recruited to UCLA by running back coach Eric Bieniemy. "He is pretty cool, Coach Bieniemy," he said. "He tells me I would feel at home at UCLA because of all the Louisiana guys. He's a really good guy."
An outstanding student, Shaw has a 3.9 GPA and scored a 22 on the ACT, fully qualifying: "For me, academics are just as important as the football program. I'm going to look at coaching style, how early I can play, all that, but academics will play a big part for me."
Shaw said a decision could happen before the season starts. "Depending on the summer I have, I could commit early," he said.
At the Nike Camp in Oxford, Shaw said he did well, but scratched his forty time. He did 24 reps on the bench, and said he typically runs in the 5.2-5.3 range.
During his junior year, he had 98 tackles and 7 ½ sacks.
