"I just want to be ready for my season," said Montgomery. "I don't want all that going on. It's distracting. I'm ready to be a Lancer, finish off my senior year. So I'm trying to get this thing done with."
Montgomery said that, of the three finalists, not one is standing out over the other two. "They are all even. It's going to come down to the unofficial visits," said Montgomery.
Unofficial visit number one took place this past weekend when Montgomery tripped to Tucson. "I liked it, it was real cool. With all their coaches, what you see is what you get," Montgomery said.
The number two visit is to Washington, which takes place in two weeks. Then Montgomery will make his final unofficial trip to UCLA in July.
"I'm going to decide in July, so when my team starts practicing in August, I'll know," Montgomery said.
Recruiting Montgomery for UCLA is regional recruiter Jon Embree, as well as running backs coach Eric Bieniemy. Montgomery said of them: "I really like the coaches at UCLA. They are all really cool people and I could see myself playing for them."
Montgomery didn't participate in any combines in the spring. Though he was set to participate at the Nike Camp at Palo Alto, he sprained a knee the week of the camp, prevented him from going. He has no plans to go to team camps this summer either.
Why isn't Montgomery planning on camping? "I just want to be with my team," he said. "It's my time to lead them so I need to be working out with them this summer."
As a junior last season, Montgomery rushed for 1,915 yards on 215 carries and 35 touchdowns, while being named an all-section pick.
Academically, Montgomery is carrying a 2.8 GPA and scored a solid 19 on the ACT.
