"I've got one offer, from San Diego State, and Fresno State could be offering me really soon. Arizona and Washington State are also really interested in me. And I've gotten letters from UCLA and USC and they both said they are watching me. I'd really like to hear more from both of them," said Manuel.
Manuel said that San Diego State is his current favorite.
"I think a lot of schools still want to see me play some more this fall and see where my better position is on the defensive line. Some schools like me as a defensive tackle, some as a defensive end and some as a tight end. I'd prefer defensive end in college, though," said Manuel.
While USC signee Kevin Thomas got most of the attention for the Spartans last year, Manuel stood out and began to get his name known in the recruiting circles. He then attended the Army All-American Combine in San Antonio in January, which was sponsored by Scout.com.
At the Army Combine, Manuel ran a 5.01 forty and jumped 31.5 in the vertical with a 4.46 shuttle time.
During his junior year, Manuel recorded 51 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 12 breakups and one interception at defensive end. As a tight end he had 18 catches for 211 yards.
Manuel said that even with the offer from San Diego State, he wants to wait and see all of his options, should a Pac-10 school offer.
Academically, he has a 3.0 GPA and scored a solid 1660 on the new SAT.
