Nevada D-Tackle Favors UCLA

Reed High School in Sparks, Nevada, doesn't traditionally get too many college coaches coming by to recruit -- until now. Jerzy Siewierski, the 6-3, 300-pound defensive tackle prospect has 14 scholarship offers, and says he has 4 favorites...

One of UCLA's top defensive line targets, Sparks (Nev.) Reed defensive tackle Jerzy Siewierski (6-2 ½, 300), has 14 scholarship offers to date.

"I just added offers from Oregon State and Duke," said Siewierski. "It's pretty cool because nobody from Northern Nevada gets recruited and my school doesn't have a lot of people getting recruited from here. I didn't expect any of this. I just wanted to play D-I ball, so getting so many schools interested is pretty cool."

The Bruins top Siewierski's list, with his top four filled out by Boise State, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State rounding it out. Siewierski said of the Bruins: "I like (UCLA defensive line) Coach (Thurmond) Moore. I get along real well with him."

Siewierski plans to take an unofficial visit to Westwood either in late July or the early part of August. He earlier took an unofficial visit to Cal when he was on their campus for camp.

About when he might make a choice: "I wanted to check out some schools this summer. I might commit early. It seems that other people are doing that. And if I commit early, I am not going to take any official trips anywhere and go against my word. I'd just visit where I committed to. I think it could happen in the early part of the season or even before the season."

Siewierski said he was done with camps for the summer, turning his attention to his high school team, working with the summer weight program, lifting and running. "I did good at the camps. I felt like I did well at Cal. They said they could offer after they see my first two games. At the Nevada camp, I was named the MVP, so that was pretty good," Siewierski said.

Academically, Siewierski is solid with a 3.1 GPA and scoring a 20 on the ACT.

Sparks kicks off its season on August 28th.
