UCLA Still Fighting for D-Tackle

Sevn schools have a chance with Jarred Shaw, the 6-5, 300-pound defensive tackle prospect from Louisiana, but it looks like one of them is clearly the favorite to land him...

Lafayette (La.) Northside defensive tackle Jarred Shaw (6-5, 330) is still sitting on two scholarship offers, from Tennessee and UCLA. But if all goes as hoped, the third offer could be coming this week.

"I'm going to the LSU camp, and I think they may offer me officially," said Shaw.

Shaw is also hearing from Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Florida. "I think those schools are waiting to see some film before they offer me," said Shaw.

He said all seven schools were his favorites, though he did admit that LSU is probably the leader. "I may commit if they offered me, but then I want to take some trips. It depends on what Coach (Les) Miles does this week," said Shaw.

Shaw said despite being out west, UCLA still is a school he has legitimate interest in. He is being recruited to UCLA by running back coach Eric Bieniemy. Shaw said, "He is pretty cool. He tells me I would feel at home at UCLA because of all the Louisiana guys. He's a really good guy."

At the Nike Camp in Oxford, Shaw said he did well, but scratched his forty time. He did 24 reps on the bench, and said he typically runs in the 5.2-5.3 range.

Shaw is an excellent and honored student at Northside. He holds a 3.9 GPA and scored a 22 on the ACT, fully qualifying.

During his junior year, he had 98 tackles and 7 ½ sacks.
