There are a few bits of information on some players who won't participate and the coaching staff's responsibilities get tweaked a little as spring practice starts Tuesday...

The NCAA basketball championship is tonight. What does that mean for UCLA football fans? It means that football spring practice starts tomorrow.

Practices are open to the public. They'll be held Monday through Thursday (except this week, obviously, which is Tuesday through Thursday) for the next four weeks. Practices start at 4.00 p.m. The spring scrimmage will be held at Drake Stadium On April 27th as the finale to spring practice.

A few little bits of spring practice news:

Rod Leisle won't participate. He'll have surgery on his right wrist to fix a lingering injury.

Wide receiver Ryan Smith won't participate. Surgery is planned for his right ankle.

There will be a few changes in coaching responsibilities, particularly in regards to special teams. Kelly Skipper, the offensive coordinator, will relinquish responsibility of the punt return unit to Gary Bernardi, the tight ends coach who handled punt coverage last year. Marc Dove, the linebackers coach, will take over kickoff returns from Skipper also.
