Birmingham (Ala.) West End defensive end Deantwan Whitehead (6-6, 245) was once verbally committed to Clemson, but with 32 scholarship offers, Whitehead has decided to open up his recruitment and look at a variety of schools.

Whitehead committed to Clemson in June, then just as quickly as he verballed, he decided that he wasn't ready for a commitment and while Clemson still is in the mix for his services, Whitehead is looking nationally.

Two of the schools who have yet to offer, but that Whitehead has a legitimate interest in are UCLA and California.

"I'm still looking at leaving the state. I may end up in-state, and if I did, Auburn is probably where I'd go. But UCLA and Cal are two schools I'm looking at. I've talked with the coaches at UCLA recently and they said they need to see my transcripts before they offer me, so I'm having my coaches do that. I would like to take a visit there and see if that's a place for me," said Whitehead.

Whitehead said with all of the offers and options he has, he hadn't narrowed his list but plans to during the season. "I don't have a leader, but I'll narrow it down to some schools in a couple of weeks. I'll take two trips that I have set up. I'm going to Arkansas on December 3rd then I'm going to Louisville, but I don't know the date. I'll hopefully go to UCLA or Cal in December, too, if they offer me," said Whitehead.

Whitehead said he would it narrow his list to a pair of schools on February 1st, then announce his decision on Signing Day.
