UCLA Gets Nation's #1 Kicker

The consensus #1 place kicker in the country, Kai Forbath of Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame, decides to be a Bruin Tuesday night...

Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame's Kai Forbath, generally considered the best kicker prospect in the nation, committed to UCLA Tuesday night.

Forbath, who is 6-1 and 190, had previously said he narrowed his list of choices to UCLA and Notre Dame.

Recently Notre Dame received a commitment from another kicker, Ryan Burkhart. Forbath said that Irish coach Charlie Weis called him Sunday night before Burkhart's announcement and gave him a deadline to make a decision.

Forbath said he wasn't prepared yet to make a decision so he turned down Weis.

‘It leaves me with UCLA," Forbath said. "I think this is what's best for me now. I kind of always saw myself at UCLA."

Forbath made 19 of 21 field goal attempts as a junior and all 73 of his extra points, and set a state record for points. His longest field goal was for 52 yards. He's also an accomplished punter, but his primary duty at UCLA will be as a place kicker.

He has told UCLA he will attend the UCLA-Rice game this weekend.
