Spanos Could Stay Local

The defensive lineman from Corona, Matt Spanos, sounds like he wants to stay local. It could be question of whether UCLA moves on him, or if another local school does...

Matt Spanos, DL, 6-5, 265, 5.0, Corona (Calif.) is coming off a season where he received 1st team All-League, 2nd team All-County and 1st team All-State Junior Team honors. Corona head coach John Brandom credits Spanos with more than sixty tackles, two sacks and eight tackles for loss.

"The schools sending letters the most are Michigan, Washington, Kansas, USC, BC, LSU, Colorado St. and Oregon," Spanos said. He is also hearing from the rest of the Pac-10, Syracuse and Wisconsin.

Spanos will be attending the Los Angeles Nike Camp this Saturday. He also intends to be at the USC camp this summer, and possibly to the UCLA camp if he can pull the necessary funds together.

As far as favorite schools, Spanos sounds like he wants to stay local. He said, "Most definitely USC and UCLA, because I have liked those schools for the longest time. I went to USC's junior day and was very impressed with the coaches. They were very aggressive."

Spanos is working on getting his grades in line and recently took the SAT for the first time. "I'm looking for a school where I can get a good education, where I like the location and where the football program is strong."

UCLA has yet to offer Spanos a scholarship.
