Big Win, Big Commitment

The dividends from beating Oklahoma already start to pay off as UCLA gets a commitment from Sparks (Nev.) Reed's 6-3, 300-pound Jerzy Sierwierski, one of UCLA's main defensive tackle targets...

Jerzy Siewierski, the 6-3, 300 pound defensive tackle from Sparks (Nev.) Reed, verbally committed to UCLA Sunday.

Sierwierski, one of UCLA's top defensive line targets since spring, admitted that UCLA's victory over Oklahoma motivated his commitment.

"The win over Oklahoma definitely made me decide quicker," Siewierski said. "UCLA is a real program, and I want to play for a real big-time program, and that just made it sure in my mind."

Sierwierski, in recent weeks, had said UCLA was his leader and he could be committing soon. He visited UCLA's fall practice and said he was close to committing then.

As a junior Sierwierski had 80 tackles, and so far through three games of his senior season has made 15 stops. Even though he won't do it in college, Siewierski is also a punter on his high school team, averaging 41 yards per punt.

Sierwierski received scholarship offers from the likes of Arizona State, Oregon State, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Fresno State and Boise State.
