"I am keeping my options open, but you could say that right now my top choices might be Cal, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State and Fresno State. No leader, though," said Slocum, of Clovis East High School.
"At Cal they run the ball and have good academics. I have a lot of friends there and it's a good environment.
"UCLA has a really good team. They beat Cal. I know some players there, and basically I just need to take a trip there and see for myself.
"At Arizona I like the coaches and players. I guess I need to check it out and see if it has a family-type of atmosphere. Arizona State is the same thing," he said.
"Fresno State is basically in my back yard. They are my hometown team. They are a really good program with a good offensive line. I think in the future you will see them coming up in the rankings."
Slocum said he is talking with coaches from his favorites and trying to iron out what dates and where he will be taking his official visits. He has Washington State down for Dec. 16 but said, "I don't know if I will be taking that one for sure. I just have to wait and see which schools I end up most interested in."
He reports eight touchdowns off of 101 carries for a total of 749 yards. Slocum said he strained his calf in the first game, but it has been "escalating" and his coach rested him for about half of their last game just as a precaution. Clovis East (4-1) plays Clovis on Oct. 14 at home.
Slocum says he has a 2.4 GPA and 1200 SAT (new version) but will re-take the test in November.
