Sleeper Wide Receiver

UCLA offers a sleeper wideout from the San Diego area, and the prospect talks about the offer, what he thinks of UCLA, his recruitment and whether he'd commit soon...

Alex Ghebreselassie, 6-3, 185, Chula Vista (Calif.) Bonita Vista, is one of the biggest sleepers on the west coast – but not anymore.

The wide receiver, who had 48 catches for 906 yards and seven interceptions as a safety in his junior season, has been offered a scholarship by UCLA – as well as Colorado, Colorado State, Arizona and San Diego State. He reportedly is very talented, with great catching ability and speed. One scout said he should be among the best wide receivers on the west coast.

Ghebreselassie attended UCLA's scrimmage on Saturday, and after the UCLA coaches talked him up quite a while, we had a chance to speak with him.

When asked if he had a favorite school at this point, Ghebreselassie said "UCLA is my top choice. It's a great school and a strong football program. When they offered me last week, April 22nd, I was really excited."

Originally from Colorado, Ghebreselassie said he'd either like to stay in California or go back to Colorado for college.

Would he consider committing soon? "I could commit by the summer," he said. "And UCLA would be my choice."

The wide receiver said he maintains a 3.4 GPA and will take the SAT for the first time in June.
