UCLA Interested in Florida Cornerback

The Bruin coaching staff is finding some prospects in the state of Florida, and the latest they're pursuing is Marcus Udell, a 6-0, 187-pound cornerback from Tallahassee Godby, who has some big-named schools already after him...

UCLA continues to scout the Sunshine State for prospects and Tallahassee is home to another defensive player the Bruins are pursuing.

Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby cornerback Marcus Udell (6-0, 187) said that UCLA has begun to show heavy interest in him and has made an impression.

"They haven't offered me yet, but they are on the verge. Coach (Karl) Dorrell has personally recruited me and really, they are recruiting me the hardest," said Udell.

Udell has double-digit offers including from LSU, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, NC State, North Carolina, Michigan State, Wake Forest and Alabama. Miami and Florida State are also scouting him, though neither has offered.

"I'm very wide open," Udell said. "Recruiting is going great, but really, I'm just trying to wait it out and focus on the season."

Maryland stands as the only official visit Udell has set up.

"I don't know where else I'm going to visit right now, but Maryland was the first school to offer me and the first to recruit me hard, so I'm visiting there on December 16th," said Udell.

Udell said that he and his coach will sit down and look at the remaining schools to see who will get his four other visits. "I'm going to take them all after the season. Really, it's about us getting to the state championship game. We're 8-2 and play Pensacola in the playoffs this week. I'm focused on that," said Udell.

Leaving the state is not an issue Udell will struggle with, should he choose to leave Florida. "I'll play wherever I think is best. Location doesn't matter for me," said Udell.

He has already been selected to play in the CaliFlorida Bowl, which will be held in California. It will be his first trip to the Golden State. So would he make a return to California and visit UCLA?

"I just may take a trip to UCLA, if they offer me," said Udell. "That's a school I definitely would like to look at. I am going to take all five trips and decide in January."

On the season, Udell has 46 tackles, 17 pass breakups and 7 interceptions from his cornerback spot.
