NorCal DL Sets Up Visits

Matangi Tonga, the 6-1, 260-pound defensive lineman from Northern California, has three favorite schools and has a plan to visit each in the next couple of months...

San Mateo (Calif.) Aragon defensive end Matangi Tonga (6-1, 260) has found it to be somewhat quiet in his recruitment the past couple of months, but it hasn't prevented him from beginning to set up his official visits.

"I'm wide open right now. I'm still into the schools that want me to take official visits," said Tonga. "But I'm leaning towards three schools right now."

Tonga said those three schools were BYU, Oregon and UCLA.

"I'm going to take a visit in early December to Oregon and in January to BYU," said Tonga. "I'll be setting up a trip with UCLA for probably December."

His plan is to take all five of his official trips. Tonga said, "I might go to Arizona State or Nebraska too, but I'm not sure."

With his older brother playing for BYU, Tonga said that his family is hoping he follows suit and ends up in Provo. "My family is leaning towards BYU because of my brother. I talk to Coach Doman a lot. It would be cool to play there," said Tonga.

Recruiting Tonga to UCLA is Jon Embree and for Oregon it is Michael Gray. "All of the coaches at the schools I've talked to are real cool and good people. I'd be cool at any school I go to and the coaches would be good to play for," said Tonga.

Tonga's team will begin the CIF Playoffs this weekend with a first round game against San Jose (Calif.) St. Francis. They are standing at 9-1.

Academically, Tonga is carrying a 3.5 GPA and will take the SAT in December.
