Tevaga: USC Fan No More

The sophomore offensive guard didn't have a great deal of time, but he did give us a few comments about the UCLA/USC game, since he was a USC fan when he was growing up...

BRO caught up with sophomore offensive guard Shannon Tevaga for a quick interview, talking about how he was once a USC fan.

With the growth of this team over this past season, has that changed how you look at playing USC?

"It changed a lot, the team concept and how we came together as a family. Everybody has grown, I've grown as a person big time so I'm not the same person, I'm not the same person that I was last year. Everyone has grown as a team."

How has your perception of the USC game changed?

"The game means a lot more now than it was when I was a freshman. I mean, I was like a freshman. But now, I'm playing for the seniors so the game means a lot more to me now."

You grew up as a USC fan right?

"Yeah I did."

So what's that like now?

"Oh, I hate them now."

When did that change occur in your mind?

"Right when I committed, the minute I signed with UCLA. When I was young I used to watch UCLA and USC, I always rooted for USC. I guess it changed it pretty quick."

What about your family, how did they feel about the Trojans?

"Oh, they were never USC fans. I was the only one in the family. I don't even know why, I just liked all the L.A. teams and I picked USC over UCLA."

On another note, your younger brother, Sonny, is committed to UCLA. And you have an older brother, Shareef, who is currently on a Mormon mission and will return in August. Is there any chance he comes to UCLA?

"I hope he comes out here. We'll see what happens. We can't really talk to each other. But he said he wasn't going to play, but we'll see what happens. My mom does wants him to play but I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see."
