The women's water polo team loses in the NCAA championship game, but the rest of the Bruin teams have a good weekend...

The Bruin women's water polo team lost to Stanford in the championship match Sunday, 8-4. UCLA won the inaugural NCAA championship a year ago. The Lady Bruins won the national championship (non-NCAA) in 2000, and also in 1998, 1997 and 1996.

The #1-ranked women's softball team beat #2 Arizona Friday, and then swept Arizona State in a double-header Saturday to win the Pac-10 championship.

The Bruins then, on Sunday, received a #1 seed in the championship tournament. They were, though, shipped out of their region, to South Carolina, where they'll face Liberty (28-31) on Thursday.

The Bruin men's tennis team advanced to the Sweet 16 in tennis over the weekend, beating San Diego State 4-1. The 4th-seeded Bruins will face 13th-seeded Florida on Saturday in College Station, Texas.

The women's tennis team, seeded #7 in the NCAA tournament, advanced to the Sweet 16 by beating Washington Saturday, 4-1. They'll face USC Thursday in Stanford.

Perhaps the surprise of the weekend was the women's golf team, ranked 16th in the country, when it tied for first in the NCAA West Regional. The lady golfers finished second in the Pac-10, and faced many of the same Pac-10 schools in the West Regional. They tied with Pepperdine for the West Regional title. The team will now advance to the NCAA tournament.
