Football Signing Day

It's like Christmas Day in terms of football recruiting -- the first day of the Football Signing Period -- and Bruin Report Online will keep you well-informed throughout the day of all developments. UPDATED 10:00 A.M.: All the NLIs are in...

Sources are indicating that UCLA has received National Letters of Intent from all 22 of the recruits that had verbally committed.

When it comes to Signing Day drama, UCLA is still waiting on the decision of Garrett Green, the 6-2, 190-pound quarterback/athlete from Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame, the #22-ranked quarterback in the nation. Both UCLA and USC offered Green in the last month, and he recently visited both campuses officially. The word is that he's leaning toward UCLA. One of his best friends is Kai Forbath, his high school teammate who is also the nation's #1-ranked kicker and committed to UCLA. He has said he'll announce his decision at 2:00 p.m.

Currently, UCLA is ranked the 18th best recruiting class in the country, by (national recruiting class rankings), but that could change throughout Signing Day as the National Letters of Intent come in.

The most-highly ranked prospect is wide receiver Terrence Austin, the 5-11, 180-pounder from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, who comes in as the #81 prospect in the country overall and the 9th-ranked wide receiver.

UCLA has 14 committed football recruits that number among the top 100 on the west coast, with a heavy emphasis on linemen. The Bruins have commitments from 7 offensive lineman and 6 defensive linemen.

Micah Kia, the 6-5, 305-pound offensive lineman from Mililani (Haw.) High, and 6-3, 270-pound offensive line prospect Jake Dean from Lancaster (Calif.) Paraclete, are two of the top three-ranked offensive linemen in the west.

Darius Savage, who is 6-4 and 330 and hails from San Diego (Calif.) Morse, is considered a top-five defensive tackle prospect in the west.

UCLA also got a commitment from a JC lineman, Nick Ekbatani, the 6-5, 285-pounder from Harbor JC. With the JC signing period in December, UCLA has already received Ekbatani's National Letter of Intent. Ekbatani chose UCLA over Miami, and the lineman is expected to come in and immediately compete for the open tackle position vacated by graduating Ed Blanton.
