Quick Report from Football Practice

A player leaves the program, another sits out do to illness and a starter has an injury flare up while the battle for the QB spot begins in earnest at Thursday's opening of Winter Practice.

Tracy called me with a quick recap just a few minutes ago with this info: Here is a quick, off-the-cuff recap of Thursday's opening practice. We will have a more detailed report as well as head coach Karl Dorrell on video following the basketball game.

PERSONNEL:

Sophomore cornerback Byron Velega has decided to transfer from UCLA following the quarter. It is unknown where he will go. That will open up a scholarship.

SS Robert Kibble did not practice. As you know, he suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and he has had a flare up of MS, which caused him to be hospitalized in the past few days. He apparantly is doing fine, but it is uncertain when or if he will return to practice.

DT Brigham Harwell re-tweaked his ankle and he was in a boot.

PRACTICE:

Generally Ben Olson looked good throwing the ball as did Pat Cowan.

WR Brandon Breazell had a good day making some nice grabs. CB Rodney Van had a good day as well.

Aaron Ware worked today with the safeties.

It was interesting to see all of the new coaches. Tracy reported he needed a roster for the players and the coaches. He said there was a good energy and that it feels like a different energy because of the coaches' NFL experience.

Signed offensive linemen Sean Sheller and Jake Dean were at practice.
