Monday Practice in the Rain

Head Coach Karl Dorrell and his staff still got in practice Monday as it rained pretty steadily. We have some notes from practice and Dorrell's comments on video...

It rained pretty steadily during practice Monday, but the coaching staff cut the session short only by five minutes.

The players were in shells for practice and did more individual than team drills for the day.

Just like last week's practice in the rain, the quarterbacks looked fairly sharp early on but then, as everything got soggy, passes were sailing and wobbling.

In the one-on-one line drills, defensive end Kenneth Lombard did well, beating his man on the edge, as did DE Bruce Davis. Doing fairly well at containing his rusher was converted offensive tackle, Chris Johnson.

It was difficult to observe the 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s in the rain. We did see safety Chris Horton pick off a pass, and cornerback Matt Slater had a strong hit on a receiver coming across the middle.

Players who are out but are now participating in various running drills are wide receiver Junior Taylor and linebacker Fred Holmes.

The other injured players watch from the sidelines, or participate in non-running drills with their units.

Justin London, the senior linebacker from last season, attended practice and said he was in very good physical shape and preparing for Pro Day at UCLA (when UCLA players work out for NFL scouts) next week.

A high school prospect attended practice named Chris Harris, an offensive lineman who looked to be about 6-5 and 280, from Moreno Valley (Calif.) Canyon Springs.
