Video and Notes On Monday's Practice

Head Coach Karl Dorrell talks about Saturday's Scrimmage after reviewing the tape, going over the standouts on both sides of the ball. He also talks about his expectations for quarterback Ben Olson...

With just three practices this week before the end of Winter practice, the UCLA football team was in shells for a shortened practice Monday.

The usual players didn't participate in practice. In addition, Ryan Graves and Aaron Meyers were absent for personal reasons. Joe Cowan didn't participate due to sickness. Andrew Baumgarter sat out after injuring his knee in the scrimmage Saturday. Defensive tackle Jess Ward hobbled off with what looked like an injured ankle.

Head Coach Karl Dorrell explains each situation in the comments on video.

On the side of practice, Junior Taylor, Chris Joseph and Fred Holmes ran springs. Joseph looks like he's running well, while Taylor still looks like he has a slight limp in his stride.

In the 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s, Chris Horton again had a couple of good hits, on one separating receiver Brandon Breazell from the ball. Linebacker Aaron Whittington also stung receiver Bobby Whithorne.

The first string offensive line consisted of Noah Sutherland (SST), Shannon Tevaga (SSG), Nathaniel Skaggs (C), P.J. Irvin (WSG), and Aleksey Lanis (WST).

UCLA's Pro Day, where NFL scouts come to Spaulding Field to evaluate UCLA's seniors from last season, is this Thursday, so we've been seeing the likes of Justin London and, today, Drew Olson, around practice recently.

The word is that kicker Justin Medlock has a very good chance of getting his charges reduced to a misdemeanor, which would enable him to return to the team this fall.

Two prospects from Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame attended practice -- OL Charlie Carmichael and S Shane Horton.
