Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame continues to be a good source of quality football players, with receiver/tight end Mike Stanton (6-5, 215) another Knight that figures to get some recruiting attention.

So far, Stanton has been getting letters from San Diego State, California, UCLA and Florida.

"I'd say that UCLA and Florida are my top two schools," said Stanton. "I could play tight end or receiver, but I think with my size, I'm probably a receiver."

Stanton is still waiting for his first scholarship offer, but said the interest he's been receiving has been encouraging. He attended San Diego State's Junior Day with teammates Sam DeMartinis and Charlie Carmichael.

"I know it's still early, so I'm in no rush. I'm not ready to make a decision anyway," said Stanton. "I play three sports and travel baseball, so I've got other things going on. I'm being patient."

Stanton is a gifted baseball player, and some in the know say he could end up being drafted in June of 2007, as a first baseman. "I like baseball, but I'm not sure yet what I'll do if I get drafted. I know I want to play football, too," said Stanton.

Stanton also played defensive back for Notre Dame, playing both cornerback and safety, and said if he had to play defense in college, it would likely be at safety. "There are not a lot of 6-5 corners, or safeties, but I like safety more," said Stanton.

Academically Stanton holds a 3.1 GPA and plans to take the SAT in the spring.
