Purtz said that Cal, a school that has offered him, is currently his favorite. "I like their new coaches, the school, and I have friends there," he said. He also said that he's considering Colorado, Oregon State, UCLA, USC and Stanford. Purtz said that Oregon State is the other school among those that has offered, but he hadn't seen the offer officially in writing, he said.
But when it comes to making a decision, Purtz sounds pretty level-headed. "I want to take enough time to make a good decision, to be able to do enough research. But I don't want to drag it out. I'd like to decide before my season, or at least before my season is over."
In fact, Purtz, who had 108 tackles and 7 sack last season, said he's probably more level-headed than his parents. "I'm a bit more constant than they are about this. The get all the letters and they go from school to school as the one they like. They've liked all the schools."
If UCLA or USC offered, though, Purtz said that might impact his list of favorites. "Sure it they offered, it might change things. But Cal would still be up there. I'm really not set on where I'm going. If a school offered and started recruiting me hard, I'm completely open to it."
Purtz said he has a 3.5 GPA and scored a 1000 on the SAT, but plans to take the test again.
