"My favorites are USC, California, UCLA and Washington," said Mitchell. "I'd like to stay close to home if I can. USC is my favorite and I went to their Junior Day. But I like UCLA and Cal a lot. UCLA has been sending me some stuff and invited me to their camp."
Mitchell said that aside from those four, Nebraska and Florida State have all been expressing interest in him, mostly as a safety. "Most schools are recruiting me as a safety, though Washington likes me as a receiver," Mitchell said.
And that leaves Mitchell in a quandary, since he likes both positions equally. He said: "I'm not sure what I'll play in college. I like receiver. I like to get the ball and know the ball is coming and I can score touchdowns. But I can't find myself not playing defense. If I had to choose, I would do whatever gets me on the field first and where I could play more. Whatever the school needs."
Mitchell said he didn't see himself making an early decision. "I want to see all of my offers and go through the whole process. I want to take all five of my trips," he said.
This spring, Mitchell said he would be at the Scout.com Combine and then in the summer, the Cal team camp and B2G Camp in Thousand Oaks. Mitchell also participates in track for Muir, running the 4x400m relay and doing both the high and long jump.
As a junior, he recorded a team leading 110 tackles, and was an all-league pick.
Academically, he said his GPA was fine and he took the SAT on April 1.
