Kelly Williams, the father of Marcus Williams, 6-2 SR PG, Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, got us up to date on his son's recruitment recently.
In addition to confirming that his son will be attending Mouth Of Wilson (Virg.) Oak Hill next season, Williams told us that Marcus is likely going to wait until next spring to make his college decision.
"He wants to see what his options are," Williams said. "Too many things can happen between the fall and spring. Coaches get fired or take new jobs. Players transfer or go pro. He wants to know what he's getting into when he makes his decision."
We asked Williams about the hometown UCLA Bruins. "UCLA offered him a scholarship," Williams said. "But he told them that he's not ready to make a decision yet and he wants to wait. Marcus really likes UCLA. This is his hometown and he knows the players. He's been working out with Cedric Bozeman and Dijon Thompson."
One school that would probably move to the top of his list, if they offer, is Arizona. "I spoke with the Arizona coaches and they said they're not sure if they'll take a point guard in this class," Williams said. "They said they'll watch him in July. If they do decide to offer, then Arizona would have a very good chance. Just about every one of their guards ends up in the NBA."
Williams said that Marcus is pretty much wide open at this point, with a number of schools still in the mix. North Carolina, UConn and Georgia Tech were three that he mentioned prominently.
