Soph Larry Drew Taking His Time

Larry Drew, Jr. has early interest from a number of elite progams, but the talented sophomore point guard from Woodland Hills Taft is in no hurry to choose a college. He told us a few schools in the Pac-10 are recruiting him particularly hard...

Larry Drew, Jr., 5-11 SO PG Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft, is one of the top players at his position in the class of 2008.

The son of a pro, Drew has an excellent feel for the game and he is adept at setting up teammates. Watching him in Arizona this past weekend, we noticed that he has become very good at running the pick and roll. His decision-making was very good and he consistently found teammates for open shots. Drew's outside shot was inconsistent this past season at Taft, but he shot the ball well in April and again this past weekend.

We spoke with Drew at the Cactus Classic and asked him which programs have been recruiting him the hardest so far.

"UCLA has been hitting me the hardest," said Drew. "Also, Cal and Washington. Those are the ones from the west. Outside of the west, Florida, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville...also Roy Williams has been sending me stuff."

We asked Drew about the timing of his decision and what he is looking for in a school.

"I'm going to take my time -- I'm not going to rush into anything," said Drew. "I'm looking for the best combination of basketball and education. Location doesn't matter to me. Also, I'd like to play with a good big man."

When asked if there are any schools that he'd like to hear from, Drew replied, "I haven't heard from UConn and Duke."

Drew said he has a 3.3 GPA.
