O'Dowd Could Decide by August

Perhaps the best offensive line prospect in the west, Kristofer O'Dowd, the 6-5, 308-pounder from Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic, said he's in the process of narrowing down his list to make a possible decision by the end of the summer. What does he have to say about UCLA?

Offensive lineman Kristofer O'Dowd (6-4, 312, 5.0) from Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson (Ariz.) has received four new scholarship offers to bring his total to 18. His latest offers come from Utah, UCLA, Boston College and Oklahoma.

"I'll narrow down my list by the end of June," O'Dowd said. "Right now I'm still pretty open. Some of the schools I like are Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Boston College, Arizona and Tennessee."

O'Dowd plans to attend camps at Arizona and USC. "Arizona is recruiting me the hardest," O'Dowd said. "They send handwritten letters and send the most mail in general.

"UCLA and USC are both really good. UCLA has a little better environment and it's in a better neighborhood, but both campuses are impressive. UCLA is pretty gorgeous and they have better facilities, but USC has the tradition.

"I also really like Ohio State," O'Dowd said. "It's a great college town and I love how important football is in the midwest. Distance isn't an issue, but I think I'd rather not be in some small town.

"Academics are the most important thing. Then I'll look at the tradition and the relationship between the players and coaches. I'll also need to see how I feel when I'm there. I think I'll take a few visits before committing. I'd say there's a chance I may choose a school before the end of summer. August would be the earliest."

O'Dowd reports a 3.1 GPA and a 1410 SAT.
