Johnny Fields (5-10.5, 160) from Fresno High, Edison's rival, has had a strong spring and is opening the eyes of many college coaches.
Fields doesn't have a scholarship offer yet, so he has plans to be very active this summer at camps and passing leagues, while posturing for a big senior year. Fields said, "I'm going to the Cal camp and I may go to B2G in June," said Fields. "I don't have any offers, but from what the schools are saying, they want to watch some senior film. I think if I start out good, then offers will come in."
Fields said his top three schools were Cal, UCLA and Florida, but if the Golden Bears offered, he'd heavily favor Cal.
"I want to take all of my official trips before I decide, but if it's the right school, I could commit," said Fields.
Fields and Viney are friends and while the allure of switching schools to play opposite Viney is intriguing, he's perfectly content at Fresno. "I'm fine at Fresno," said Fields. "I'll play some quarterback and receiver this year, but I'm mainly getting recruited at cornerback."
Academically, Fields has a 3.1 GPA and scored a 1020 on the first crack at the SAT.
