Spanos Working Hard

Matt Spanos, the defensive lineman from Corona, is working hard this summer preparing for a senior season he hopes will reap more interest and offers from colleges...

Matt Spanos, 6-5, 265, 5.1, Corona (Calif.) has set his sights on the Pac-10 and a Big-12 school. "I would have to say that Colorado, USC and Washington are recruiting me the hardest. Right now I have offers from Washington State, USC and Fresno St."

"I have no specific favorite. I've liked USC for a while, and I'm really excited about all of the schools. I'm really interested in the whole Pac-10 like Oregon, USC, UCLA, Washington and Washington State. I've heard from Nebraska and Texas A&M as well."

Spanos has kept busy this summer going to football camps, working out with his high school team and attending summer school. "I went to the USC and UCLA camps this summer. With my high school team right now I am lining up just on defense, but I'll probably end up going both ways by the middle of the season." Schools are recruiting Spanos for defense, except USC, which wants him to try out for the offensive line.

"If I had to take an official visit right now I would probably go to Washington State, Oregon, Washington and Colorado."

Spano says that he's looking for the entire package in a college. "My family is pretty open as far as where I end up playing, but they do want to make sure I choose a school for the complete college experience and not just for the football program. Can they give me a great education as well?"

UCLA is one of the schools that will be watching Spanos this season.
