Elite DB To Visit UCLA

Cedric Everson, the #7-ranked cornerback in the nation by Scout.com, will make the long-awaited unofficial visit to UCLA from his home in Detroit. His father tells us about why UCLA is among the leaders for his son, and how the trip could impact his decision...

Cedric Everson III (6-1, 175, 4.3), from Detroit (Mich.) Mumford, planned on visiting UCLA back in May, but had to put his visit on hold because of track commitments.

The plans are now back on the agenda, his father, Cedric Everson Jr., said.

Everson has the AAU Junior Olympics in Baltimore next week and Cedric will schedule his West Coast trip shortly after he returns home.

Penn State, Georgia Tech and UCLA are the favorites for Scout.com's No. 7 ranked cornerback, but the Bruins could have the final opportunity to make an impression with Everson.

"I'm being told Cedric will be sold on UCLA when he visits Los Angeles," Everson Jr. said. "You know, it's Hollywood, Beverly Hills, the beach. What's not to like?"

The Eversons also have family in the Los Angeles area and a niece who could possibly attend UCLA's Law School.

"My niece graduated from Michigan State and she's thinking about attending UCLA's law school," Everson Jr. said. It was mentioned that the UCLA Law School is one of the finest in the country. "You're preaching to the choir," said Everson Jr. "We know how good a school UCLA is and I actually wanted to go to UCLA when I was younger. If my niece decides on UCLA, that would be a perfect situation for Cedric. He and my niece are like best friends and I would be very comfortable with Cedric being there."

Everson Jr. said there's a good chance of his son committing early and that's his preference. "Getting a commitment out of the way before the season begins eliminates distractions," Everson Jr. said. "But if he can't make a decision after his unofficial visits, he might take some or all five of his official visits."

While visiting UCLA is the primary reason for the visit, the father also said they'll check out USC while in Los Angeles.

Scout.com will keep you posted on Everson's visit to California.
