It's Changed with Knight

UCLA was recruiting the safety/linebacker prospect, 6-0, 190-pound Derek Knight from Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance, but there has been a development that has derailed that a bit. Knight tells us about it, and while he's still looking at the Bruins, things have changed...

Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance safety Derek Knight (6-0, 190) has seven schools that stand out on his list, three from the Big Ten, three from the Pac-10 and one from the ACC, spreading his interest around the country.

"Right now my top seven is Georgia Tech, Arizona State, Iowa, Oregon, Illinois, Michigan State and UCLA," said Knight. "They have all offered me as a safety but UCLA offered me as a linebacker."

Interestingly enough, Knight, who has 22 total offers, said the offer from UCLA is no longer on the table.

"They said that they have two linebackers already coming in, so they took my offer. I'm still looking at them and they could offer me again. I'd give them a look, but I'm not sure I'll end up visiting there," said Knight.

Knight said that he would like to visit the two other Pac-10 schools on his list, Oregon and Arizona State.

"Arizona State I will definitely visit," said Knight. "(ASU assistant) Coach (Bill) Miller said he wants me to come out for one of their games. I'm going to try and take two during the season and then the rest when it's done. Georgia Tech is going to be a school I'll visit. I'm thinking Oregon also and Iowa."

He's also looking at one of the in-state schools but said he likely won't take an official visit there.

"Michigan State, they're in my top schools and they're doing pretty good on my list. That was the only college camp I did," said Knight.

Knight said he would like to get his decision done around the time he wraps up the season. "Probably shortly after the season and all the football stuff is done, I'll have time to sit down and do some planning. Unless something catches my eye, I'll decide around then," said Knight.

During his junior season, Knight had 128 tackles, 11 sacks, five forced fumbles and two interceptions. On offense, Knight rushed for 540 yards on 54 carries.

Academically, Knight has a 3.0 GPA and scored a 19 on the ACT.
