Travis Draper Update

The lineman from Paso Robles, Travis Draper, is now a prime target for many schools. He said he's firmed up his recruiting list and his recruiting plans...

Not much has changed for the talented lineman, Travis Draper, 6-4.5, 252, 4.79, Paso Robles (Calif.) High, who burst upon the recruiting scene with his solid performance at the Los Angeles Nike camp. He is taking his time and weighing all his options before making any decision.

Draper has his top five schools, but he has no timetable for making a final choice. "My top five schools would be USC, UCLA, Washington, Washington State and Fresno State," he said.

Who is recruiting him the hardest and who has offered? "The schools that recruiting me the hardest are USC, UCLA, Washington, Washington State, Colorado and Fresno State," Draper said. "Of those USC, UCLA, Washington and Washington State have all offered. My favorite school right now is USC."

Draper intends to take his trips, but has a plan for those potential official visits. "I've already seen UCLA and USC, so I'm not going to take any official trips to those schools. I want to take trips to schools I haven't seen." While Draper intends to visit out of state schools look for him to stay close to home. "I want to stay in California. I don't want to travel all they way across the United States."

Draper is getting prepared to play both sides of the line as a senior, and he says the schools recruiting him have a little difference of where they project him. "I prefer to play offense. USC wants to see me play both offense and defense although they are recruiting me mostly as an offensive player. UCLA is recruiting me strictly for offense. Last year I played only offense, but this year the coaches want me to play defensive end too."

Besides the Nike Camp, Draper has stayed busy this summer. "I went to USC lineman camp, the UCLA camp in June, and I am heading up to the Fresno State camp this weekend."

The quick lineman is also working very hard this summer to continue to improve his play. "I am working out with my team. We have summer practice led by our head coach (Rich Schimke) from 7:00 to 10:00 in the morning. We get our lifting and practices in during that time, and after that I go to the gym," Draper said.

Draper is already fully qualified.
