Akeem Ayers, the 6-3, 225-pound defensive end/linebacker, committed to UCLA this afternoon.

"I always knew where I wanted to go. I'm excited to get it out fo the way so I can focus on my senior year," Ayers said.

He was offered a scholarship a few weeks ago, time he needed to make the decision. He said, "I just wanted to make sure in my mind about everything. I knew I was going to UCLA, I just wanted to make sure."

Ayers met with Head Coach Karl Dorrell and assistants DeWayne Walker, Chuck Bullough and Todd Howard. "They were excited when I told them, and they congratulated me. My family is really happy becaue I'm going to be so close to home." Ayers said UCLA wants him to take a shot at linebacker, but told him they could also see him as a rush defensive end in different situations.

So, what's the plans for Ayers now? "I'm going to get ready for a big senior year," he said. "And now I'm going to focus on getting (receiver and teammate) Reggie Dunn there. He's so excited for me to commit there."
