Friday Practice & Dorrell on Video

Head Coach Karl Dorrell takes questions from the media after Monday morning's practice, mostly discussing the preparations for the scrimmage on Saturday. One receiver had a standout day Friday morning...

The football team practiced lightly Friday morning, just one day before the fall scrimmage, and in just shells.

Many of the players who had been hobbled in recent days returned to practice, at least on a limited basis.

Kevin Brown walked around practice in a boot, protecting his sprained ankle.

Receiver Matt Willis had a standout day, catching two touchdown passes on the redzone scrimmage, and then another on a slant, slicing through the defense.

Interesting note: longsnapper Christian Yount is enrolled in the C session of summer school, and has been out at every practice so far, but not participating. He is paying his own way for school and will this fall, with the plan for him to then join the team in winter on scholarship. Yount's scholarship will count against the 2007 class so, officially, with seven verbal commitments, UCLA has only one scholarship left to give to the 2007 (a total of nine being available). It's expected that 2-3 more could open up by next fall.

Jeff Davis (aka smilingjeffrey) provides us a detailed report of Friday's morning practice.
