Brendan Lavender, a 6-4 junior shooting guard from Arizona, ranks among the the best at his position in the west for 2008 and is a top 50 potential national prospect. He told us recently that three schools are currently at the top of his list...

Brendan Lavender, 6-4 JR SG Mesa (Ariz.) Mountain View, is a talented scorer with an excellent feel for the game. Lavender has very good ball skills and sees the court well. He's one of the elite wings in the west for 2008.

We spoke with Lavender recently and asked about the schools that he currently has interest in.

"Right now, I like Arizona, UCLA and Utah," said Lavender. "Those would be the main three. I talked with UCLA and they said they'd be out in a few weeks. Coach Pastner from Arizona came to a game and I've seen Coach Jones from Utah a couple times."

We asked Lavender if there are other programs he's hearing from at this time.

"The other ones that I'm hearing from are UNLV, Washington, Arizona State, BYU, Oregon and Washington State," said Lavender.

When asked if he has a leader, Lavender replied, "I really like Arizona right now, but I'm still open."

Lavender said several programs have offered him a scholarship.

"Utah, BYU, Washington, UNLV, Arizona State and Washington State have offered," said Lavender.

Lavender talked a little about the issues he'll consider when picking a school.

"A good education is always important," said Lavender. "Also, a good surrounding and good coaching. A lot of people talk about wanting to start, but I'm not too worried about starting early. I'm willing to wait at least a year and then see what happens."

Lavender is a Mormon and we asked if he plans on going on a mission after high school.

"I'm not sure – I haven't figured that out yet. I'm still thinking about it," said Lavender.

Lavender said he's not close to reaching a decision.

"I'll probably decide after the summer," said Lavender.

Previously, Lavender told us that he has a 3.5 GPA.
