OL Prospect Likes UCLA

After a few impressive camp performances and sending out highlight films to schools nationwide, Philadelphia, Pa., native Chris Palmer, the 6-4, 290-pound line prospect, is seeing his stock start to rise drastically. Palmer is now hearing from some of the nation's elite programs...

Take one look at Chris Palmer and it's hard not to be impressed with his high-cut, 6-foot-4, 290-pound frame. Pop in his film and you see a very athletic, very strong young man who is still a bit raw, but has tons of upside. Schools around the nation are starting to take notice of that and Palmer's recruiting picture has changed drastically in a month's time.

"I was invited to junior days at Oklahoma, USC, WVU and UCLA over the past month," Palmer said. "I couldn't make it to Oklahoma because I had a conflict, but I'm pretty sure I'll be going to see the others."

Palmer, a St. John Neumann product is one that we refer to as a jumbo-athlete and could play on either side of the ball in college, however almost every school that is recruiting him presently seems to like him at defensive tackle. Over the past few months he was timed at a 4.7 short shuttle, showed a 33-inch vertical jump and ran a 5.4 40-yard dash which he admittedly ran much slower then normal. Palmer talked a bit about different schools recruiting him now.

USC - "They actually called my cell phone by accident and told me they couldn't talk to me, so my father returned their call. They told my dad they really liked what they saw from me on film and said they were interested in having me come out to their junior day. They also requested a copy of my transcript. I watched USC on TV a few times this season and really liked the way they play, so I'm definitely interested in them."

UCLA - "UCLA is the school that I like the best right now. They've been showing me a lot of love and told me to expect an offer from them soon. My father spoke with one of the coaches from there for a while and they asked him if I'd be interested in coming out for junior day, which I definitely am. I like that it's out in California because that's a nice place to go to school. Distance isn't a factor for me at all."

West Virginia - "West Virginia invited me down for junior day after my dad talked to one of the coaches. There are some kids from this area that went there like P.J. Shirdan and John Maddox and I'm not trying to go to a school with a bunch of kids from this area, but I do like West Virginia as a school and program, so I'm going to check it out."

Minnesota - "When I went up to Syracuse Coach Tim Cross showed me around and I really liked that dude. He was just really cool with me and we clicked. When he left Syracuse it was tough, but he's up at Minnesota now, so I'm getting interest from them too. I'm very interested in Minnesota now that he's up there."

Palmer is getting mail and being contacted by dozens of schools nationwide and already took in a visit at Syracuse last month. By the looks of things his first offer could be on the way and interest in this big man is only going to increase.
