D-End Prospect from Mater Dei

The 6-5, 225-pound defensive end prospect from Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, Cameron Meredith, has two scholarship offers to date, and the Pac-10 is where he wants to be. He told us about his experience at UCLA's Junior Day, another school he'd like to hear from, and more...

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei defensive end Cameron Meredith (6-4.5, 225) is hoping that when Signing Day comes in 11 months, his signature goes on a letter of intent for a Pac-10 school.

"I want to stay close to home because my family is all out here," said Meredith. "I really hope to stay and play in the Pac-10."

Meredith has two scholarship offers to date, from San Diego State and Arizona, and three other schools have been showing a lot of interest in him. "Oregon, Boston College and UCLA have been recruiting me really hard," said Meredith. "They haven't said that an offer is coming just yet, but it could be soon."

Meredith was invited to UCLA's Junior Day last month. "I thought it was real nice," said Meredith. "We got to meet all of the coaches and check out the school and the campus. It was really good."

And though he wasn't initially invited to USC's Meet and Greet, he attended with teammate Khaled Holmes. "I wasn't invited to USC's but I went with Khaled and it ended up working out good," said Meredith. "We got to meet the coaches and tour the campus."

Meredith listed his top five schools, in no particular order, as USC, Arizona, Oregon, UCLA and Oklahoma.

This spring, Meredith plans to visit a few of the non-local Pac-10 schools. "I'll take some unofficials to Arizona and Arizona State this spring and then we're going to fly up to Oregon and check it out," said Meredith. "I'll do my official visits this fall, and I want to take all of them."

Meredith, like most kids at Catholic schools, said that if Notre Dame got involved more, he'd be all ears. "If I got more interest from them, or if they offered me, then I'd really take a look at them," said Meredith. "You always hear about Notre Dame football, so it would definitely be something to think about."

Meredith is coming off a 60-tackle, eight-sack season for the Monarchs and this fall he's also planning to mix in more time at tight end. "Everyone is recruiting me as a defensive end, though. I'm at 225 now, but I want to by fall be at least 240," said Meredith.

Academically, he has a 2.6 GPA and will take the SAT in the spring.
