Friday Practice Report & Video

Karl Dorrell talks about running back Chris Markey's injury and the new coaches in video comments after practice. Several of UCLA's signees from the class of 2007 attend practice, along with a handful of recruits in the class of 2008 on Friday...

UCLA's second day of spring practice saw a smoother performance on both sides of the ball.

The receivers and defensive backs staged some spirited one-on-one's with both sides getting the better of the other.

Alterraun Verner made a nice deflection on a pass from Ben Olson intended for Terrence Austin. A few plays later, Verner bit hard on a Pat Cowan pump fake, who then hit big brother Joe Cowan in stride.

When the team took to 11-on-11, they still weren't in pads on Friday, Kevin Brown picked off a screen pass and took it back for a score, but fumbled, at which Bruce Davis jumped on it.

Pat Cowan took the first reps with the first offense in the scrimmage, but he and Olson got equal snaps.

Karl Dorrell talks about Chris Markey's status in the video.

A handful of class of 2007 signees came to practice, including Brian Price, who again spent the practice shadowing Todd Howard and the defensive line and showing around committed defensive end Datone Jones for the second straight day. Steve Sloan, Justin Edison and Glenn Love were also there on Friday.

From the class of 2008, Jones and fellow commits Kemonte Bateman and Johnathan Franklin came, along with Kyle Lokane from Cathedral Catholic in San Diego, Francis McDonald from Dorsey, and Chris Jones, an athlete from Shadow Ridge in Las Vegas, who definitely passed the eyeball test.

UCLA will practice on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Fan Appreciation Day beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Spaulding Field.
