JC Linebacker Commits to UCLA

A JC linebacker, Mitt Schmitt, verbally committed to UCLA Monday. Not much is know about the 6-1, 228-pounder from Glendale (Ariz.) Phoenix College, but he did do something this last weekend that spurred UCLA to offer him a scholarship...

Last night Scout.com reported that linebacker Mike Schmitt from Phoenix College was offered a scholarship from UCLA.

We have learned today from Phoenix head coach Dale Wolfley that Schmitt committed to the Bruins last night.

We've also learned that Schmitt came to Los Angeles this last Saturday for UCLA's scrimmage, where he spoke with the UCLA coaches. When he returned home, UCLA extended an offer to him.

Schmitt tripped to Colorado State and Tulsa and had an offer from the Golden Hurricane.

The 6'1 228 pound linebacker is a full qualifier and will have 4 years to play 3 for the Bruins.

He prepped at Cactus HS (Glendale, AZ) and helped the Cobras win a 4A1 state championship with a perfect 14-0 record. As a senior he recorded 109 tackles, 4 sacks and 3 fumble recoveries. He followed up a good prep career with a solid freshmen season at PC, earning 2nd team all WSFL for the 4-6 Bears and was 3rd in the NCJAA in tackles.

Check back for a feature from Schmitt soon.

Editor's Note: It's uncertain when Schmitt will come to UCLA. UCLA is currently filled for scholarships for the fall, but scholarships could certainly open up by then.
