News on Darren Collison and the NBA

With so much swirling around about the sophomore Darren Collison and the NBA draft, we have our own sources on the subject of whether the point guard will test the NBA waters or stay at UCLA for his junior year...

Darren Collison will not make himself eligible for the 2007 NBA draft, according to good sources.

Since the end of the season, it's been uncertain whether Collison would test the NBA waters and put his name in the draft. The deadline for submitting your name is April 29th.

Collison could put his name in the draft and work out for NBA teams to gauge his stock, and then pull his name out and return to UCLA if he doesn't hire an agent.

But as's Jeff Goodman reported last week, and as our sources have confirmed, Collison will announce this week that he is not putting his name in the draft. The announcement should be made formally in the next couple of days.

Much has been made since yesterday that June Collison, Darren's mother, had resigned from her job as director of San Bernardino County's Regional Medical Center in order to help her son in critical time in his life. That was speculated to mean that Collison would indeed put his name in the draft.
