"I sent out my highlight DVD to about 70 schools and UCLA responded with a scholarship offer. They (UCLA) sent me a letter and told me how impressed they were with me and they'd like me to be a Bruin.
"I'm really excited for the visit. I've heard great things about UCLA. They have great academics, it's a really nice campus and its L.A. so there should be plenty of things to see while we are out there."
Wermers has a brother that currently is a senior at Purdue, do the Boilermakers have the inside track for Kurt's signature?
"I've been to Purdue several times and I've stayed with my brother. I like Purdue, I like the coaches and the program but my brother is a senior now so that won't factor into my decision at all.
"I have scholarship offers from Michigan, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, UCLA, Iowa, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan.
"There's no leader right now. As a matter of fact, I'm not even going to name a top five until after I take my unofficial visits and hit some camps this summer. I just can't put any numbers next to names right now. Everyone is equal in my eyes."
The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Wermers will be a three-year varsity starter in '07 and he was named all-state as a junior. Kurt said he recently attended a Notre Dame spring practice and he also made trips to Michigan and Iowa for unofficial visits.
