Quick Off-Season Football Program Facts

It's the off-season, so it's hard to keep up with exactly what the football program is doing these days. So, here's a spot that gives you one-stop shopping; it updates you on the latest news on the program, the reports from spring practice, recruiting, the schedule for next season, and more...

Recent Team News:

-- Jeremy McGee, the redshirt freshman receiver/cornerback, has transferred to Ole Miss. McGee's mother passed away last year and he believed the move closer to his family in Louisiana would be beneficial.

-- Junior running back Derrick Williams ended his career after suffering too many concussions. He sat out spring practice with a concussion and it was determined shortly thereafter that Williams would need to end his career. He remains in school at UCLA.

-- UCLA's spring practice ended Friday, April 27th, culminating with the final Spring Scrimmage. (Report on Spring Game). The day before the spring game, Head Coach Karl Dorrell named Ben Olson the starting quarterback (Dorrell Names Olson).

-- The team has been conducting its off-season workouts, without coaches, since the end of practice.

-- Fall camp will begin in August. UCLA Media Day should be August 6th, and UCLA's first non-pad practice should be Thursday, August 9th. Fall camp will proceed, along with two-a-day practices, through the end of August, and practices will be open to the public. Game week practice will start August 27th and be closed from then on.

Recruiting:

-- Currently the UCLA football program is in last day of the spring evaluation recruiting period. It's a time from April 15th to May 31st when college coaches can go watch high school prospects at their high school or at combines (There are a certain amount of times each prospect can bee seen).

-- UCLA will conduct it's One-Day Camp for high school football players and prospects June 9th on Spaulding Field.

-- UCLA currently has 24 scholarships total to give to the class of 2008, and currently has 14 commitments for the class. Commitment List & Recruiting Database
